Week 12 3D Design

First thing we did in class was sort out the 10Squared invitations. We were all given 160 invitation to distribute.

GROUP EXERCISE – Concept Evaluation
PART 1 – 20 mins
Each student presents their exhibition portfolio to the class
PART 2 - 10 mins Blog
Each student post feedback on all other students in your blog
Minimum of 50 words blogging on each student

Josie - She had a great floor plan designed for her exhibition. It details the L shape desk she will be using and where her Portfolio is going to sit. I think her idea to use transparent dividers to create her logo was really good idea.

Billie - I think Billie's idea about making the tree out of metal is a good idea but I can see how it is going to cause the smaller details to become hard to do. For example if it made out of metal how is she going to give that 100mm gap between the tree and the wall like she wants. I think her scrapping the frames idea is good and she and I talked about her making photos shaped like apples but like xmas decorations where when it spins on the tree you will see same picture on 4 different sides.

Warwick - Warwick is using irrigation piping to create a table. Im curious to see how big it will be when he uses valve box lids or perspects at the top of the table. Im not sure I would have fake grass underneath the table in the exhibition i would probably look at getting real grass.

Rachel - Not really sure what Rachel will decide as her final 3D designs because she has so many concepts that she could run with but is running out of time.

PRACTICAL – Design Realisation
20 mins – Develop 3D Exhibition Designs / 5 mins Blog

Haven't done much more work on the roof of the house but with the left over ply wood I cut out the word TIMOR and need to buy some more to cut out LESTE for the title of my exhibition.

This is a photo of part of my complete sign.

Week 12 2D Design

GROUP EXERCISE – Presenting Your Portfolio

PART 1 – 20 mins
Each student presents their exhibition portfolio to the class

PART 2 - 10 mins Blog
Each student post feedback on all other students in your blog
Minimum of 50 words blogging on each student

Billie - I think Billie's idea about making the tree out of metal is a good idea but I can see how it is going to cause the smaller details to become hard to do. Josie - I think her design coming along well. It amazing how just to execute her logo has taken her so much research and trial and error. I really admire Josie for sticking it out and eventually finding a solution because I think if were my idea i would have scrapped it and modified my idea to be executed in a different way.

Rachel - Her 2D idea is really strong and she could do almost anything with it. It seems that because she can experiment with a lot of items but is running out of time i think it is overwhelming her.

Warwick - The logo I feel has taken a step backwards. Few weeks ago Warwick had such momentum with his concept but now I feel his losing some of the good ideas he had at the start. I guess by it going backwards in its progression might help him re-find the fundamentals he was working really well on in the beginning.

PRACTICAL – Design Realisation
30 mins – Develop 2D Exhibition Designs / 10 mins Blog

My 2D designs have been print! YEY.
These images will be mounted on box frames that have 4 different depths, 100mm, 75mm, 50mm and 25mm. To find out how to attach the prints to the box frame I found this video that will help me apply my prints to the flat surface of the box.

From this video I now know what supplies I need to obtain to get a good result for my prints. Instead of a roller I may try look for a different way to spread the glue.

Week 11 3D Design

GROUP EXERCISE – Concept Evaluation
Reflecting on the effectiveness of your design process and concept communication
PART 1 – 20 mins
The GROUP verbally evaluates each member’s 3D Exhibition work
Scribe writes a summary paragraph on the 2 points below for each member
1. Effectiveness of design process
2. Effectiveness of concept communication
3. Progress in the last week
PART 2 - 10 mins Blog
Each student post the group results in your blog with images and descriptive text

To make evaluation of each others projects we gave a score out of 10 for each criteria as seen below.

Progress in the last week;

Myself;
My progress for the past week included experimenting and finding different materials that could work for the style of rood I want on my traditional house. Also thinking about how I want to place my half house on the wall.

Josie;
My progress is somewhat slowing to a halt.
Lettering: My Materials are there but I wont get the MDF for the lettering until sometime this week and from there it will go to the laser cutters.
Circles: Unfortunately I cant use Perspex so I’m going to use acetate and cut the circles out with a compass Blade.

Warwick;
I have researched the different types of artificial grass to use as a base for my Irrigation Coffee table. Josie informed me that Bunnings had fake grass sold by the metre so I went on their website and looked at the different types available. Its roughly $30/m for the base grade stuff so I might need a couple of metres. I need to go in and check it out.

PRACTICAL – Design Realisation
20 mins – Develop 3D Exhibition Designs / 5 mins Blog

My exhibition design has finally taken shape. I have built two prototypes  to give me different perspective and ideas for how I want the final product to come together. Here is an image of both prototypes;

New idea was given to me by Te to use an old straw broomstick as the materials for the roof instead of collecting sticks which may become time consuming and lose consistency. I was thinking to display the house at the exhibition I will have it standing on a table on top of some dirt with a light shining up on it.

This video was very insightful as to how I can give my roof different layer affect and attach my straw effectively. I was thinking that I could just apply a thin layer of glue and lay out one layer of straw but after watching this video I realized I could scale it down and use string to tie bundles together and then tie several bundles together and thumb tac or glue that one layer then build up from there.
