PRACTICAL – Design Realisation
20 mins – Develop 3D Exhibition Designs / 5 mins Blog

My exhibition design has finally taken shape. I have built two prototypes  to give me different perspective and ideas for how I want the final product to come together. Here is an image of both prototypes;

New idea was given to me by Te to use an old straw broomstick as the materials for the roof instead of collecting sticks which may become time consuming and lose consistency. I was thinking to display the house at the exhibition I will have it standing on a table on top of some dirt with a light shining up on it.

PRACTICAL – Design Realisation
20 mins – Develop 2D Exhibition Designs / 5 mins Blog

My 2D design has gone through some changes but I think my new concept will be more effective. I will be printing two images in with different effects and have a banner with TIMOR LESTE tying the images together. Each of the images will be printed at about A2 size then attached to MDF by a printing company. When displayed each of the different images will be attached to the wall at different depths by attaching wooden sides. Lighting may be applied to give shadows to exaggerate the depths.

This video was a great insight to seeing exactly what Billie was describing to me. Now I know what to ask for from printing companies and I can see how that size can be affective. Was good to know that the whole thing is protected from heat and humidity... Will come in handy in Darwin :)

Week 9 2D Design

GROUP EXERCISE – Concept Realisation

PRODUCING A RANGE - 15 mins
Sketch in your Visual Diary or Illustrator

1. Clear rendition of 3 invitation / flyer layouts using the logo & text supplied
2. The design must have space for sponsor logos
3. CDU logo must be on the bottom right – check branding rules

BLOG - 15 mins
Each student post the group results in your blog with images and descriptive text

The first thought I wanted to do with my versions of invites I wanted to use the same brush stroke and the red used in the headline to create an image of the “Hotlands” to compliment our headline. I wanted most of the background white so all information was legible.

PRACTICAL – Design Realisation

30 mins – Illustrator / 10 mins Presentations / 10 mins Blog

1. Layout your version of all 3 designs decided on in the group exercise
2. Show your results to the class
3. Blog screenshots of your work

Here are my first 3 originals layouts.

After the class all shared their different designs if was agreed that Rachel’s idea to use paint splotches and Billie’s idea of using a brush stroke frame to tie the front and back of the invitation together would be good if merged. After talking with Mark it was decided not to incorporate the two designs because it made the frame too heavy so instead i worked on the levels of splotches and reducing the frame. Here are my versions.

I am still unsure how I want to  build the roof of my Timor House. This video provided some ideas of what i can do with pop sticks to give the angles i need to make. The camera work in the video is a little wobbly. Wasn't good trying to watch when I was hung over.... motion sickness hahah
